Contemporary Business Communication

Question: Discuss about the Contemporary Business Communication. Answer: Introduction: Contemporary business communication depends on the proper and justified style. Therefore, such communication styles are classified into several divisions. Among such divisions, the study will be focusing on the assertive and the submissive style of communication. The contradiction between these two types of business communication style will be discussed in this essay. It is noted that the assertive style is indicating an action of behaviour that is preferable to the people. Khanvilkar Srivastava (2016) implied that this specific communication style declares the human rights. On the other hand, the submissive style is a form of passive action, which does not represent the needs and the opinions. This type of communication style usually ignores the conflicts and responsibilities. It is to be noted that the assertive communication creates the clear connection between the domineering and dominant. The leaders and the high self-esteem individuals usually undertake such communication style, which is much clear, confident, and concise (Memon, 2014). On the contrary, the passive communicators or the submissive communicator are much hesitant to express their concerns. They usually prefer the indirect communication. They are even unwilling to participate in the social settings. Another most recognisable difference between the assertive and submissive communicators is the diversified attitude of expressing the thoughts. Waldeck et al. (2012) pointed out that the c assertive communication is the reflection of the self confidence. An assertive leader highlights the confident postures with a strong eye contact. The movements are quite inspirational for others. On the contrary, the passive communicators have the inward body language. The limited and modest gestures are generally displaying the submissive body language. The assertive communicators maintain the medium-pitched voice with an impressive tonality whereas the submissive communicators maintain the low volume, high pitch and soft voice. The assertive communicators usually gather the superficial charm by their language. The reflection of the sarcasm is visible in their language. The charms and the impressive style of presenting the thoughts often make them win over any argument. The submissive communicato rs, on the other side, pass the responsibility to others. The imprecision and verbosity are much visible in their communicative language (Cornelissen, 2014). They usually use filler words and apologise profusely in a very frequent manner. The contradiction between these two types of communication style indicates the preferable personality of the associates in a corporate setting. However, it can be inferred that every organisation requires the person who maintain a high transparency level and expressive body language. Therefore, the assertive communication style is suitable for resolving the situation conflicts and structuring the organisational functionalities. The assertive communication style fosters precision and clarity. It is associated with the proper professionalism and politeness. On the contrary, the submissive communicators are usually avoiding the responsibilities. Instead of resolving the issues, the passive communicators refuse to take the liabilities. They often prefer others to deal with the diversified scenario occurred within an organisation. Therefore, such type communicators are not useful for the contemporary business.
